There have been a series of products that contain vitamins to try to give their product healthy credentials that are currently unproven at best and potentially impossible at worst.
Should You Avoid Vitamin Vapes?
Vaping is growing exponentially in popularity, with people choosing to pick up vape supplies for different reasons.
For some people it is about making a change from harmful cigarettes, for others, it is about making huge vape clouds, and for others still, it is for the sheer enjoyment of it.
However, there have been a series of products that contain vitamins to try to give their product healthy credentials that are currently unproven at best and potentially impossible at worst.
Here are some of the reasons to avoid vitamin vapes.
Unproven Claims
The reason why some manufacturers add vitamins to their vape juice is to provide healthy credentials that they can use, sometimes illegally, in their marketing, if they are made without robust, product-specific supporting evidence.
This could be tricky with some of these products, as they contain essential oils, vitamins and other chemicals without published evidence that these ingredients are safe to vape, nor whether vaping destroys the vitamins.
In the case of the latter, they cannot be sold with healthy credentials, but in the case of the former, they cannot be sold at all.
You Canβt Inhale Vitamins
Providing robust supporting evidence that you can inhale vitamins may be tricky as there is no proof that vitamins can even be absorbed through inhalation.
Typically, vitamins are absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract and the digestive system, which is why vitamin supplements are tablets or capsules that are swallowed, typically with food.
Even if you could, given the relatively small amounts of liquid vapour inhaled each time, it is unlikely that enough of a vitamin will be absorbed to have any effect, positive or negative.
Do You Even Need Vitamin Supplements?
If you are eating a healthy, balanced diet with enough sources of vitamins and minerals, taking vitamin supplements is largely unnecessary, and the NHS warns that taking too many of them for too long can have negative side effects.
That is not to say that all vitamins are bad; the NHS also recommend taking a 10 microgram supplement of vitamin D during the Autumn and Winter months, pregnant women should take folic acid supplements, and some doctors advise that children take vitamins, A, C and D tablets every day.
For the most part, though, multivitamins are not needed to live a healthy life and are even less necessary in vape products.
